March Madness at The MarkMar 27, 2019 Blog
With March Madness in full swing, finding the best place to watch the games can be tricky. Lucky for you, Boston boasts both a long sporting tradition and a huge selection of quality pubs, sports bars, and other spots where you can catch one game or a full day of matchups. And some of the best spots are right in the neighborhood near the East Boston condos at The Mark. Eddie C’s and Craft Table and Bar readily come to mind. And don’t forget, you also can indulge in the Madness at home, right next to The Mark’s Boston luxury condos, in any one of multiple entertainment lounges.
Eddie C’s is a place where you’ll find both longtime Eastie residents and the new professionals who have embraced the charm of East Boston. Housed in a modest gray block building on Maverick Square, this no-frills hangout has been a longtime neighborhood favorite, known for its easy atmosphere, remarkably inexpensive drinks, and cheerful, yet quick, service. Best of all, “the game” is always on. And during the tournament, all of the TVs will be following the action. Grab your friends, get a few pitchers of your favorite draft, settle in with a plate of cheese balls or a Hot Pocket, if that’s your thing, and enjoy an authentic Eastie experience.
If you’re looking for something a little more refined, with a wider selection of food and drink, then try Craft Table and Bar. There, you can get delicious versions of your favorite pub staples, like fish and chips or wings. Just know that you’ll likely pass them by opting for more adventurous mains and starters. Try the Deconstructed Wontons, made with crispy wontons that are topped with tuna tartare, avocado, ginger and citrus wasabi crema before being dusted with togarashi, and served with a side of ponzu sauce. We also love the Bang Bang Cauliflower of buttermilk-battered and fried cauliflower tossed in a spicy chili sauce with ranch dipping sauce. And while greens don’t often come to mind when filling out your bracket, they will after you try the Coffee Crusted Steak Salad, made with coffee-crusted sirloin and frisee greens tossed in an espresso vinaigrette. The full wine and cocktail menu here is equally as impressive as the food menu, but we’re happily distracted from those tasty sips by the wide selection of craft brews, including Smuttynose Old Brown Dog brown ale from New Hampshire and the Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout from Colorado.
Of course, with the immersive lounges of The Mark at your disposal, you may decide not to go out at all. In fact, after your friends see these spaces, they’ll come running the next time you utter the words, “We could just stay in.” For those afternoon games, try the Terrace Lounge. Let the sun stream in and enjoy looking out over the courtyard during the commercial breaks. In the evening, find your way to the Billiards Lounge. Shoot some pool with your friends between tip-offs, or enjoy a drink in front of the fireplace during halftime. No matter where you choose to watch the tournament at The Mark, you’ll find it the perfect place to host a group of friends and cheer your alma mater into the Final Four.
