The Mark on Valentine’s DayFeb 06, 2019 Blog
An important reminder: Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. And, of course, you’ll want to pull something surprising and spectacular out of the romantic hat for that special someone in your life. Whether it’s delicious chocolates, stunning bouquets, or a top-notch table for two, East Boston is replete with shops and restaurants, ensuring that not only will the big day go smoothly, it’ll be a Valentine’s Day that Cupid himself would be proud of.
The family-run Fashion Flowers comes into its own on Valentine’s Day. Call on the florist to arrange A Cascade of Love (12 red roses, blended with four of your sweetheart’s favorite blooms, like orchids or sunflowers), a Bamboo Red Heart Plant, or even a Mini Orchids Island, which comes with a miniature balloon for an added touch of festivity. Deliveries are available, but this boutique store is located just moments from the condos at The Mark — ideal for making a last-minute Valentine’s dash.
For plenty of people, Valentine’s just isn’t Valentine’s without the chocolate. Make sure your sweetheart’s sweet tooth is sated by visiting one of Boston’s luxury chocolate shops. Captain Jackson’s Historic Chocolate is located just a short hop across the water, and offers handmade, spice-laced confectionery, made to taste the way it would have in the 18th century. Ghirardelli, meanwhile, brims with delights, such as Caramel Duet Hearts and assorted chocolate treats, packed into a signature gold heart or a compact and stylish little box called a Valentine Clutch. Of course, your sweet treats needn’t involve cocoa. Call in at La Sultana Bakery to pick up one of their decadent cheesecakes or a box of pastel-colored cupcakes. Or plump for the Italian vibe, with a box of assorted babas, cannoli, and rum-soaked chocolate ganache-frosted cake from Modern Pastry. It’s just a 12-minute drive from the East Boston condos.
Table for Two
Looking to dine out this Valentine’s Day? Try Alcove, where New England meets the Mediterranean, and while your night away over dishes like pan-seared sea bream and a chocolate tart with cassis sorbet. Stay closer to home with a table at D’Parma, where you can feast on pasta dishes in an authentic, low-lit trattoria. If the occasion calls for a dreamy waterfront setting, look no further than ReelHouse, a bona fide foodie destination serving vibrant seafood platters and dumplings stuffed with kobe beef and foie gras. It’s difficult to say which is more delicious here, the cuisine or the vistas. Pier 6, another waterfront option, dishes up indescribably fresh oysters and lobster tails while Boston glints majestically across the water. Add in a chilled bottle of fizz, and the recipe for romance is complete.
